Tanjong Pagar, Singapore
On level 8 of the Amara Hotel on Tanjong Pagar Road, in the middle of Singapore's business district, football is played between the high-rises. Where the hotel's tennis court used to be, there is now a SoccerGround Advanced measuring 30 x 15 m, the first football pitch on a roof in Singapore.
The SoccerGround Advanced is free-standing, so there was no need to drill into the roof for the pitch. The steel structure came from Germany, the artificial turf from the Netherlands. Ball-stop nets 4 m high, including the boards, enclose the pitch, and roof netting keeps the ball on the roof.
The pitch is run by Stadio Futsal, founded by the former national players V. Sundramoorthy and Marko Kraljevic. Up to ten players take each other on here, with goals of 3 x 2 m and the Tanjong Pagar skyline behind them.
