Tanjong Pagar, Singapore
On level 8 of the Amara Hotel on Tanjong Pagar Road, in the middle of Singapore's business district, soccer is played between the high-rises. Where the hotel's tennis court used to be, there is now a SoccerGround Advanced measuring 98' x 49', the first soccer field on a roof in Singapore.
The SoccerGround Advanced is freestanding, so there was no need to drill into the roof for the field. The steel structure came from Germany, the artificial turf from the Netherlands. Ball-stop netting 13' high, including the boards, encloses the field, and roof netting keeps the ball on the roof.
The field is run by Stadio Futsal, founded by the former national players V. Sundramoorthy and Marko Kraljevic. Up to ten players take each other on here, with 10' x 6.5' goals and the Tanjong Pagar skyline behind them.
