Helsinki, Finland
In the middle of Helsinki, on Narinkkatori square in the Kamppi district, a SoccerGround Portable measuring 22 x 16 m stood in July 2018. It hosted a tournament of the Finnish Homeless World Cup team, between the Kamppi Chapel, the shopping centre and the café terraces.
The Finnish team is run by the Homeless Academy, founded in 2006 as the football project of the Helsinki Deaconess Institute. It offers training, tournaments and education to people affected by homelessness, addiction or social isolation across Finland. Finland has sent a team to the Homeless World Cup every year since 2006.
The Portable stands free on the paving and needs no anchoring. Boards, netting up to 3 m high all round and goals of 4 x 1.2 m turn the square into a pitch for street football, with two entry gates onto the pitch. The 2017 Homeless World Cup in Oslo had already been played on SoccerGround Portable in the same format.
