Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Where Port-au-Prince leaves hardly any open space, people play where there is room: on the roof. A SoccerGround Portable of 27 x 18 m stands here above the city for Food For The Poor.
The SoccerGround Portable needs no foundations. Its boards with the built-in goals are set up and joined together, so even a flat roof becomes a pitch. Ball-stop nets all round keep the ball on the roof, and the game is played on artificial turf with goals of 3 x 2 m.
The Christian relief organisation Food For The Poor, based in Florida, helps families in Latin America and the Caribbean, most of all in Haiti: with food, houses, schools, medical care and water wells. The rooftop pitch gives young people a place to play football in the middle of the city.
