Small-Sided Soccer for Kids 3v3, 4v4 and Funino: the field for it

Small teams, small fields, more touches

Since 2017, U.S. Soccer's small-sided standards apply across the country: kids up to U8 play 4v4 without goalkeepers on a small field, with no scores or standings kept, so every child gets lots of touches. 3v3 and Funino, a 3v3 game on four mini goals, are further small-sided games for the same age. U.S. Soccer standards

SoccerGround built the 1,019 Mini-Pitches of the German Soccer Federation and builds courts with rebound boards in any size, including the sizes these formats call for.

Formats and Field Sizes

4v4 for U6 to U8

No goalkeepers, a field 25 to 35 yards long and 15 to 25 yards wide (75' to 105' by 45' to 75'), goals at most 6' wide and 4' high, a size 3 ball, four 10-minute quarters. Kick-ins or dribble-ins from the sidelines. U.S. Soccer

3v3

Listed by U.S. Soccer among the small-sided games for U7 and U8; 3v3 tournaments and leagues set their own field sizes and rules. U.S. Soccer age group guide

Funino

3v3 in which each team attacks and defends two mini goals; goals count only from a shooting zone. Developed by Horst Wein; the FIFA Training Centre gives an example field of 25 x 25 m (about 82' x 82'). FIFA Training Centre

No scores kept

At U8 and younger, U.S. Soccer asks that results and standings are not recorded: the games are for playing and learning.

Sizes that fit

Our 78' x 50', 100' x 50' and 100' x 65' courts are within U.S. Soccer's 4v4 range; the 65' x 42' court is a little narrower and suits 3v3 and training. Any other size on request.

Rebound boards and nets

40" sound-insulated boards keep the ball on the court, ball-stop netting keeps it out of the street. Where the rules ask for kick-ins or dribble-ins, they apply at the boards; in training and free play the ball simply stays in play.

Several courts side by side

Courts can be combined board to board, so several games run at the same time.

Built for unsupervised play

Tested as a complete system by TÜV Rheinland and certified to DIN EN 15312 for freely accessible multi-sport equipment; no finger traps or sharp edges.

Portable for tournaments and events

For tournaments, festivals and events there is the SoccerGround Portable: set up without ground anchoring on grass, turf, asphalt or a gym floor by two or three people in about one to two hours. Its modular boards, 3' to 10' long, make almost any field size possible, and courts up to 50' x 32' fit on a car trailer.
